I needed a stock, got hooked up with one of those stocks that looks like its adjustable, but is fixed. On this rifle, I want to use both, a carbine upper and a rifle upper. I should buy a rifle buffer, right? That will fit in my stock and will allow function of both a rifle and carbine upper, correct?

Doesn't matter.  Rifle uppers work fine with carbine extensions and vice versa.  Just make sure if you use a carbine extension you use a carbine buffer (and rifle tubes get rifle buffers).

Do not put a rifle buffer in a carbine extension (rifle won't cycle), or a carbine buffer in a rifle extension (your gas key will smash itself into the inside rear of your upper).

Oh, and rifle extensions get rifle springs; carbine extensions get carbine springs.

ETA:  To answer your question, you need a carbine buffer & spring to fit the carbine tube on your pinned carbine stock and it will work fine if you put a rifle upper on it.
