First time posting here, I've lurked for some time. I own a couple AR15s, but other than some Magpul goodies and a little taticool stuff and BCGs I've never built one from the ground up. Some buddies started a "lets build 300BLK silenced SBRs" so I decided to join in. This was Novemner 2012 so it's taken a bit longer, and cost a bit more than originally planned but in all we've done pretty well.
It started with the purchase of a batch of 10.5" AAC 300BLK barrels. I decided to spring for some billet stuff since I'll probably never sell this weapon, and settled on the MEGA upper lower ambi billet set, which ended up taking months to find. In the meantime I picked up an UPK, PSA LPK, nickle BCG and charging handle, carbon fiber Lancer hand guard, some 45 degree sites, a pretty nice red/green dot, pistol gas tube, troy low pro gas block, and the Krinker to extend the barrel for the HG. Building took me a bit longer... as I wanted to ensure I didn't mark the lower or lose a takedown pin spring, but in the end I had it basically all together (save the barrel and gas stuff) in about two hours. I'll be going to a buddies place to install the barrel and gas system and install the Krinker. For now this will be an AR pistol, and I'll begin my tax stamp stuff shortly (still not too familiar with that as this is my first NFA weapon). http://oi43.tinypic.com/mue5h5.jpg http://oi39.tinypic.com/2dbkrw7.jpg http://oi40.tinypic.com/2qlvhg9.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/1zdtzpx.jpg |

Realized those are not the best pics. Here's a shot of the upper lower in the middle of the build.
Probably a little bland considering some of the ceracoated stuff I've seen on here, but I'm rather proud of her. http://i39.tinypic.com/2yjwvht.jpg |

Thanks! I'll definitely post some pics once we get the barrel on there.
I used the red loctite that came with the Lancer kit on the HG, now I think that may have been an error, but lesson learned if I ever have to take it off, eh? In terms of the grip, I am going to change it out, I just stuck with the PSA because I honestly didn't even think about it... and I've got like 4 grips sitting in a toolbox too. After I'd put it together and read a bit I was definitely going to go with something with less angle like the Ergo tactical. Even as an SBR I think it will be more comfortable since it's generally a more compact format. I have a couple questions on this build moving forward I'm hoping you guys can help with: I've decided to start building a 5.56 upper because of the ease of finding the ammo (and my personal stash is pretty big). It's going to be based off the MEGA billet side charge upper just for something different. I've decided to stick with a "pistol" (SBR) format and settled on either a 11.5 or 12.5" barrel. - MEGA side charge upper - $135 http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=1657 - side charge BCG - $75-250 Either a Youngs or have a spare one tapped?Youngs side charge - 12.5" barrel - $250 looks like Centurion, Noveski, or DD... there aren't a lot of other options - Rifle length AP Customs HG - $185 CF HG from APC Total looks to be easily $700+ for pretty high end parts... so does anyone know a machinist/gunsmith who can reliably tap a BCG for side charge? Are there any places to get cheaper barrels than the three I've been able to reliably locate? Also considering 11.5" barrels which seem to be a bit cheaper. Honestly I'd like to try and spend $150-200 on the barrel. |
