Well the time has come to get off the bench and start gathering goods to build my first AR.
I'm in Michigan so no SBR or Piston driven fold away stocks.... I'm looking to build something for pure fun/ throw is in the trunk and roll up north with it on the weekend. I want to go with billet because I really just like the idea that my parts were once a big ole block of aluminum. No need for fancy triggers or super duper self aiming sights, just good old fashioned American Metal. My starter list is as follows: Billet Lower Billet Upper (maybe) S&W Upgraded Bolt Standard LPK Troy Battle Rail or Magpul Magpul MOE Stock |

billet is a waste of money no advantages besides looks... REALLY????? I think I was fairly clear when I said "I want to go with billet because I really just like the idea that my parts were once a big ole block of aluminum". Man this is why I have spent years lurking in the dark and not posting. Hey Noppe; an education is a waste of money if you're not going to learn how to read. If I want to spend $2000.00 on a backwoods plinker; more power to me and sorry if your pay check leaves you but hurt when you review others builds. |
| I'd go with the new CMT Tactical Billet Upper and Lower. They look awesome. https://www.cmttac.com/ |

The cost of some billet lowers has come down so its not all that much more over std. forged lowers...
The difference in uppers between std. forged vs. billet is where you want to spend the extra cash as the billet is considerably stiffer vs. std. forged uppers and thus will aid in accuracy...Just go with the 7075 T-6 versions... Good luck with your build. |

| When I buy another billet it will be an AXTS lower. Other than the seekins billet they are the best looking ones out there, in my opinion. As far as opinions on billet and forged keep it to yourself guys, I love the look of billet lowers, how ever there not for everybody. |
If you are ex-military, consider Quentin Defense - they make a great billet upper/lower and offer the lower with military crests (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines). They are a great bunch of folks too.

I love the Seekins I just built, the only pain in the ass is finding the matching upper - Primary has logo and no-logo in stock right now

Tho forged may have a "slight" tensile strength advantage, billet will usually have the machined consistency advantage. And if made with stronger side walls and "meat", will be stronger negating the forge strength at cost of minimal weight increase. Oh and also they usually look sooo good and fit components like a perfect glove ETA I love my Mega billet, but I baby it way to much due to me loving it too much

Hey Willie,
There is a company in Michigan that's manufacturing Billet Lowers, or they are close to it. A coworker of mine was telling me about it the other day at lunch. I will get the name of the company and post it up for you. I haven't seen the lower but I thought you might be interested because your profile says your in Michigan. |
