I've finally decided I need an AR.
I'd like to build a predator/varmit rifle with 1 moa accuracy. I don't really need a 1 holer, I made a rather spontaneous decision and ordered a Spike stripped lower and a RRA 2 stage trigger 3.5# This is about as far as I've gotten. I'm thinking 18-20" bbl. I'm assuming I want a free float bbl - but I don't think I'm going to have lights, lasers, and stuff hanging off the fore arm. I am undecided on a vertical front grip. I have not really looked into optics - $1000 +/- for a trijicon is not going to work though. So - Next is buttstock and receiver extension - I don't know that I need a collapsable stock, and I'll stick with the milspec extension/stock. Then to start working on the upper - Rather dizzying array of striped uppers out there - What to look for in an upper? sort of related - why are M16 full auto BCG ok? and why are the different from an AR15 group (physical differences) |

18-20 medcon stainless steel barrel from rainier, noveske, white oak, etc... would suit you fine.
1 moa accuracy free float is a must. night varmit hunting is fun...you may consider a light in the future but any of the free floats on the market will easily hang a light somewhere so you can worry about that later. you may not think you need a collapsible stock right now but you never know. if you find the lop or weight or cheek weld on an a2 uncomfortable later...its more costly to change out rather than just buying a collapsible now. nothing functionally wrong with an a2 stock ive never liked them though. collapsibles are much more flexible. ehhh...stripped lowers and stripped uppers from any decent manufacturer will be fine, dont beat your head on a wall deciding on which receiver to use. you may get a better anodizing match sticking with the same mfg but its been a long time since ive seen a spikes upper in stock anywhere so you may be SOL on that one. why wouldnt they be ok? the only difference is a ramp on the bottom to cock the hammer to take pressure off the firing pin (altho many semi auto carriers do this now as well so moot point) and a little more meat (weight) on the back. theres nothing super magical about an m16 carrier. |

Thanks - That helps the plan.
Was just curious / wondering about the BCG, I realize any M16 parts in the lower = big no no. Couldn't quite get why an 'M16' part in the upper is a no problemo. Didn't figure logic had anything to do with it (especially these days) |
