Just received the new CMT Billet Upper the UPUR-1. This this is sweet and was the perfect match for my Noveske lower. I had plans to do an all Noveske build but got tired of trying to find a Noveske MUR upper but I'm actually glad I went with the CMT as I like it even better.

CMT UPUR-1 upper
Noveske FFL lower
Spikes BCG
Geissele SSA
Magpul UBR

This will be a RECCE so to finish out the build I will be fitting it with:

16" Ranier SS barrel
Noveske NSR 15
Ranier Raptor
AAC 51t
1-4x24 that is TBD

*****My one issue. This lower on mates up with 1 of my uppers. The upper you see now you can notice the rear takedown pin is about 75% in and that is as far as I can get it in with my hand. I did tap it in earlier with a hammer and punch but I also had to punch it out and it was ridiculously tight! Anyone has any suggestions on the best way to loosen up the lug to make the pins a bit easier?

Always modify the cheapest part - I'd shave the pins to correct for the out-of-spec holes.

(PS: Your pictures aren't working)

Good advice. I'll start on the pins but this Noveske lower is a definitely a little out of spec which is not too thrilling on a 260$ lower. Thanks

The fit of my noveske gen 2 is pretty tight with the mur receiver I have. I need a pen or other "tool" to take it down.

I'm super new here so maybe this is retarded advice... but maybe call up noveske, maybe they had a bad run and will replace it or something. $260 for a lower that is out of spec is kinda lame. I mean my $89.99 lower fit everything perfect

Mine requires a metal punch and a BFH and a lot of force to get it the last 1/4 and to remove the pin. I've been working on it for the last hour driving the take down pin in and back out and it hasn't loosened up at all. Will try to work on the pins tomorrow.

At least I will finally have an AR that doesn't rattle

I had some extra coating on my upper in the pivot and takedown holes. I measured with a caliper the takedown pins, and sent the same size drill bit thru and everything worked great. Never cut enough coating to show aluminum either.

Stupid expensive parts shouldn't be out of spec

Be glad it isn't really loose I have one AR that is bad. I have to use and ear plug to tighten it up.

I have the same upper and lower..and they do look great together. Mine has no issues with the pins.

Does the pin go in easily without the upper?  Have you tried another pin..have you tried that pin with another upper or that upper with another lower and pin?  That might help you determine if it's the pin upper or lower

I wouldn't mess with it, I have guns that go together like that and if you ask me its better. I always carry a 10-8 performance tool or a Derlin Plastic punch so its no issue...I rather it be tight than start shaving or grinding to make it have more play, after time it will all work out.

Knock it in and shoot it.  It will loosen up over time.  Until then use a Delrin punch as shooter posted to get it in/out.

I remember RRA lowers that were hella hard to get an upper onto.   Put em together then shot the shit out of them and it would loosen them up a tad but still not easy enough to get in/out by hand for a while.

I probably have 5 or 6 derlin punches and handful of the 10-8 tools, these are just good tools that are cheap and you can bring with you anywhere.

Also Ergo makes a nice one too.

Derlin
10-8
Ergo

Cheap non marring tools that helps a ton.

I was not aware of the Delrin punch but I just placed an order for one. Thanks for the heads up on that.

buy like 5 of them, and I love the 10-8 ones too.

I would get some measurements and post them. A lot of guys now what is spec and what isn't. It sounds like something isn't in spec. With a part like Noveske, I would assume they would want to  make it right.

My noveske lower was exactly like that when I first got it, after using it now it's just right.

Yeah.  I'd much rather it be too tight.

Wow, am I glad I got low end receivers! PSA lower with a J&T kit and an Anderson set. J&T LPKs in both and everything fits perfectly.
Pins push without tools and minimal rattle when together.
Wonder how they will be with a few miles on them...

Use a Delrin Pin Pusher and the palm of your hand.
Don't beat on it with a hammer and steel punch.

Lube the pin (and the detent groove).
Be happy, they'll break in.
