Hello everyone, I am going to start my first AR build. I want to post the parts that I am going to buy on here before I get them so hopefully you all can help me choose the right parts and maybe give me some advice. I am going to buy my lower first then hopefully get a complete upper. Here is how I want to complete my lower.

Spikes Tactical Spider stripped lower
Palmetto State complete Milspec lower parts kit

Please if you have any suggestions on an upper or any comments on things I need to change about my lower post them. I don't want a very expensive gun just a quality reliable first AR.
Thank You

Cant go wrong with the Spikes.

PSA upper with out BCG or CH $399
PSA upper $479 with out BCG and CH
PSA upper light weight with out BCG or CH $549

Then all you would need is

Stock/buffer kit
Bolt Carrier group
Charging handle
Sights

Also, while not in stock right now, check AIM out as they have really good deals on complete uppers. WITH BCG's and CH's

Look at the Spikes stuff on the last row...

Thanks for the info. Is it hard to assemble the lower? Or should I just buy a complete lower?

Don't buy an assembled lower unless you have no tools, or aren't willing to get some basics. I think the value of knowing how it all goes together, and therefore being able to troubleshoot is a huge advantage of building it yourself. There are a lot of pictorial and video guides on the net.

This +1. Had fun building my lower. Now i know where and what everything is. If something break, i can fix it. Its easy too, just get the right tools. Only thing i did not enjoy was hammering home the bolt catch pin.

A Spike's lower is exactly how I started my first build. Then I got lucky and found a Daniel Defense V7LW upper for $800. I just finish my second build, it is so addicting. Start a second savings account just for ARs, I promise, there WILL be more ARs. Here is my first build ever....... href=http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b494/BrAss_Kicker/DDspikes_zps8fccb1d3.png" />

Shes beautiful! I have been considering that upper set up for my next build as well. How does it shoot and feel?

I love the DD modular float rail. VERY comfortable and versatile. Gun shoots awesome. About 2000 rounds through her without a single problem. Not the most accurate rifle I have, but it is accurate none the less. It shoots just over 1 moa (1.25-1.5moa)

I agree with some others here. Don't buy a complete lower or even a complete upper for that matter. You really can do it all yourself with a few specific tools. I bought my first AR off the shelf and over time made a ton of mods to it. Then I thought this is stupid, why don't I just build it myself. I did and gave my fiancée the first AR and now we shoot together.... Here's a pic of my first build (the only thing I didn't do was pin/weld the comp)

IT just feels better and have more pride in the one you build yourself. I have two now. The one i built (budget build) isn't as pretty as the one i bought, it's still the one i made. Better feeling of accomplishment. Plus i know this gun now. I know every piece, every scratch, everything about it. Better than the one i bought.
