| This is going to be my first build any tips or advice? Currently I have a Stripped lower New Frontier lower. Any Help would be appreciated. |
If it's a NFA Polymer lower then sale it and buy a Forged lower as it's the foundation for your build. From there live in this sub forum and read, read, read and then ask questions. You'll find everything you need to know has already been asked and answered in here. Welcome to Arfcom brother

Welcome to the madness. The best advice I can give you is to search around on this forum and on the rest of the site. There are HUNDREDS of threads about build choices -- way too many to repeat here. The basic question you'll need to answer is the purpose for the new gun. If you're like I was when I built my first one, the answer will be, I dunno. A good basic gun with a 16" 1:9 or 1:7 twist rate is a great starting point. Once you get some experience with ARs, you'll start to figure out what you really want/need and either replace parts or build another one. That's how I ended up with 15 of the little bastards. The absolute worst thing you can do is have a leftover part at the end of the build. They ALWAYS end up causing a new build. |
| I just put together my New Frontier polymer lower receiver today and had several issues. The mag catch slot was not cut out all the way and had to widen it with a carbide bit. also the safety lever holes needed some cleaning out cause the lever would not go in. Not a big deal but wish I would have gotten a forged receiver. I used a Del-ton Rifle kit from Classic Firearms also. Good luck on your build |
| Thanks for the advice so far. I'm going to take my chances on the polymer lower for my first build. Dont want to go to expensive and mess something up. Just recently bought a Rock River single stage Lower Parts kit next up I'm going to buy a mil spec butt stock kit from magpul and I haven't decided if I'm going to buy a complete upper or build it but I do know that I want a 14.5 with a 1:7. But please keep the advice rolling and I will post pics of a complete lower once and get it set in a mag block. |

I picked up a complete upper package from PSA and then assembled a stripped PSA lower for my first build. I just finished it last night but my plan is to shoot - upgrade - shoot - upgrade repeat over and over and over while I figure what I like. Prices are continueing to drop so keep searching around for parts and don't feel like you have to have every perfect piece to start your build. I can't wait to take mine apart(again just built my first last night) when I get around to ordering/receiving a new part.
Don't go cheap on your bolt or your barrel; that would be my .02. I don't think 158bolts are necessary, but it seems like every Joe Shmoe started popping out gun parts during the scare in order to make a buck. Go w a reputable company for your bolt and the same w your barrel. Have a blast! I know I did. Matt |
