I have an old barrel and the original FSB but do not have the taper pins I took out when removing the FSB. Can I use a new set of pins and be ok?

Not needed. The taper locks it in there pretty damn tight.

Thanks for the info guys. I figured it would be ok but was not 100% sure.

You may find that you have different sized taper pins. While you would think they would all be the same I have found that they are not. Take the parts with you when you go to get new ones. I have a number of them in the parts bin (I hate to throw them away even when I will never use them) and I seem to find 2 distinct sizes.

Have a 2/0 Taper Pin reamer on hand and a good number of taper pins.  When pushed in with finger pressure you want the taper pin head to stick out by 1/8".  If you find a taper pin that sticks out 1/8", put it in and whack it home, if it sticks out over 1/8" LIGHTLY ream the hole until it sticks out the right length, then whack it home.

I have a bunch of new pins I bought a couple years ago. I bought a bunch of parts to have spares for every thing on hand.

I will try a few diff ones and see which work the best like BenC says.
