| Its between the troy alpha or the midwest one piece. Anyone can attest to difference? |

Troy & Samson .....only two I will deal with after playing around with all the others. And this is just my opinion, I have NO clue why everyone loves MI shit so much all I see is bad reviews, messed up installs, not even lines,etc....... I have not once had a problem with Samson or Troy |

If i use a free float tube and a low profile gas block as long as i cover the gas block the length of the tube is not an issue correct? When they advertise for a midlength or rifle thats only if your going to use a standard gas tube correct? Most handguards are advertised in length, but some will say Carbine for a 7" rail..... Midlength for a 9" rail ....and Rifle for a 12" rail. If you have a carbine upper and want to cover the gas block you need to look for a rail that is longer than 7". Most of the time you can cover it with about 2" or more length. So a carbine can be covered with a Midlength handguard. A midlength can be covered with a rifle length, and a rifle length needs a 14" or longer rail. I like a long rail and in my experience I have used the following without any surprises or disappointment: Carbine: 10" rail Midlength: 12-12.37" rail (Samson Evo) Rifle: 15" rail However you could probably use: Carbine: 9-10" rail Midlength: 11" (specter) rail Rifle: 14-14.5" rail |

so.........the complaints about MI. non-mechanically inclined people/noobs/morons causing their own problems? i have installed 4 of their rails so far with absolutely ZERO issues. fit and finish was great on all of them. I have installed Close to a dozen of them. Two have had issue in regard to the barrel nut requiring a 85-95ftlbs of torque to get alignment. I started using Spike's shims after that and had no issues. Two of them had issues with the alignment not being 100% true to the upper receiver. They are a cinch design that holds by pinching and requires lock tight to get 100% lock on the barrel nut. There is a reason troy went with a different design on their TRX style rails. I have built close to dozens of rifles using handguards from Larue, Troy, MI, SLR, Noveske, Rainier, Samson, and Seekins. MI has been the only handguard that has required shims and more dicking with to get them right. Has this guy used a MI rail before? Is he a super bad-ass mother fucker like yourself? Can you guarantee he won't have issues installing a design that has been abandoned by several other rail makers? |

I editted my post, my comments about self forincation was uncalled for. But I stand by the rest of what I said.

Receivers were not the issue. In most cases a new barrel nut or flat out new handguard fixed the issue. MI has great customer service, I just wish they would improve their design.

Not real fond of the Troy.......especially since they went to those little pinch clamps.........had nothing but excellent results with Midwest Industries Gen II two piece freefloat.............. and love the Samson Evoloution..........love their quad rail too.....it's just a little pricey for a lot of my customers.....

Good, shot another 2gun "match" this morning. Wasn't official and no real scoring today due to the weather and the low turnout, buncha pansies.... Shot my bufferless SBR on a couple stages. First time I've shot the bufferless and the 7.5" back to back, and it's surprising how well the KX3 works. |

I run a 13" Troy Alpha on my 16". I was happy with it until I helped a friend install his MI Gen 2 SS. Now I'm kicking around putting the Troy on my .22 upper and replacing it with a MI. I like the feel of it better and it "feels" lighter if that makes sense.
I should also note that I had absolutely zero problems installing it. On the other hand, I can't seem to keep my Troy aligned. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the stupid thing is sitting at 11:30-45 position. I can realign it and torque down the bolts, and after using it a bit, it moves. So for all of those that claim MI's mounting system sucks should look at some of the others that were recommended here that basically use the EXACT same system. I'm not going into battle or butt stroking bad guys like most of the mall ninjas on here, so my opinion probably isn't worth 2ยข. I go to my parents property where we have a small range, do some shooting. Otherwise, I use it for coyote and fox hunting. No battles or SHTF scenarios. But, if it came to that, I'd feel comfortable using either. |
