| Who hear has done this and what type of prep is needed? I want to put gun-kote on my lower, but Im not sure the prep thats involved. Do I just need to get the oils off and clean with acetone and apply or do I need to use a blast media? |

If you go Cerakote, it is recommended to media blast with 120 grit aluminum oxide. I have everything arriving this week to Duracoat two upper and lower receivers. One FDE and one Foliage Green. Have received the paint, but waiting on airbrush from Harbor Freight. |

Degrease.
Bake at 150 for 20 mins to raise any left over oils. Degrease again. DO NOT TOUCH CLEANED PARTS WITH BARE HANDS! If it's shiny smooth, then you need to blast with aluminum oxide. (See pics below) PLAN AND PRACTICE how you will hold each part to get complete coverage. Also plan for how you'll hang the parts to dry and then bake. I used bent coat hangers. Use many light coats with a warming/drying by heat gun in between. Keep the parts at about 100 degrees. Follow the KG directions as closely as possible. Here's an example of what can go wrong if you don't blast bare metal, shiny parts. The left mag was not blasted had its finish peel off after just a few cycles in an out of the gun. The right one was blasted and has been through a hundred cycles or more.
