Good morning. First off I would like to say that I have found a great deal of information On this site over the last couple of months and I really appreciate it.
I want to build a 16" A3 flat top middie (this is my first build so budget is a consideration) . It's primary purpose is for fun but could also be used for home defense. I'm thinking all black with folding sites and a nice red dot optic. I know I want a flashlight and vertical foregrip. I also want a 6 position stock. My plan is to use a 14.5" barrel with a permanently installed flash hider or muzzle brake. I have a few questions that I am unsure of and I have heard conflicting information about. 1.) What if any parts should I buy matching (ie. Upper/lower, upper/bcg, upper/barrel) ? 2.) Should I buy a LPK or get them separately.? 3.) What is the difference between a muzzle brake and a flash hider (I know it sounds stupid), should I choose one or the other for home defense? -Answered 4.) Are Magpul parts worth the extra money? 5.) If I was to pick one part to upgrade what should it be? Thank you so much for your help and support. |

Flash hider helps to contain the muzzle flash so your enemies cannot see your position. 4> I think so (my opinion) 5> Optics. (my opinion) |

Most components are made in the same factory but finished by the "brand." i would only conceder matched for a precision gun, or a high dollar gun assuming that it will hold value because of the brand. 2) LPKs tend to come out a little it cheaper depending what brand and where you get. Also See 1. in addition, triggers that are not MIL spec are created differently. You just have to boil down what you want, and what to spend. 3)MB breaks the percussion FH minimizes the flash from the shooter. this comes in best at twilight so it doesnt blind you. some do both. 4) Magpul is a good product, I would say its slightly more comfortable and it looks better. Performance wise, Milspec will do the job, but again, it’s all in what you want. 5) Depends on what you want. i like a rifle hat could be rugged, so prefer strength in parts that move or wear like the bolt or the barrel. A milspec BCG will be fine, but get a chrome lined barrel if you want longevity. Beware of cheap parts made in china, fake airsoft 4) depends on what you want. i like a rifle hat could be rugged, so prefer strength in parts that wear down like the BCG or the barrel. a milspec BCG will be fine, but get a chrome lined barrel if you want logevity. And welcome to the forum! |

Matching uppers/lowers is mostly a cosmetic concern. (I'm not suggesting that is a good/bad thing). If it doesn't matter to you, there's really not practical functional reason to match manufacturers. 2.) You will save a few bucks buying a LPK rather than trying to source individually. Stay with the known brands and you shouldn't have any issues. 3.) Muzzle Brakes work to reduce felt recoil and speed up recovery for follow-up shots. Flash Hiders work to reduce muzzle flash and reduce it's effect on your vision. Particularly in low light conditions. Compared to other calibers, the .223 produces a relatively light recoil. Also, most muzzle brakes tend to greatly increase the muzzle noise, which will be even more noticeable indoors. For these reasons, I would go with a Flash Hider. 4.) Magpul makes quality products. If you like the part, it's worth the extra money. 5.) I would suggest trigger and then barrel. |
