Either will do, it depends on if you want a carbine stock or a rifle stock.

Basically if you want the carbine stock or if you want the rifle stock

Yeah I was't sure if it would make a difference
with cycling.  I'm going with a tan or fde
carbine 6 position then.

Yeah, it should cycle fine with the standard buffer on each (given you have the mid length gas system). It really just depends on how long the spring, tube and stock are. You can also adjust it with heavier buffers if there does end up being a cycling problem.
