I am building my first AR, it will be mainly an A2 with A1 handguards.  I just got a new barrel, it is the 20" heavy barrel and the .750 front sight base.  What I am trying to understand is what holds the front sight base in place?  There is no notch on the bottom of the barrel, just the gas vent hole at the top.  Is there some additional machining I need to do?  Drill additional holes in the FSB and notch the barrel?

Thanks for any advice you have.

You will need to drill taper pin holes in the FSB, which will also notch the barrel. If you aren't set up with a way to keep everything aligned in your drill press/mill, I would recommend sending the barrel and FSB to ADCO
