I'm building a rifle for my wife, so the focus is simplicity. Things are coming together really well. I bought the DPMS Sportical upper complete. I built the lower from a PSA stripped lower, a PSA LPK with a QMS trigger, and an A1 stock kit from Fulton Armory.

I was going for trim and lightweight with a minimum of levers and buttons. It's working out better than I had expected. The Sportical upper is slick-sided, has a lightweight barrel that still shoots well, and no iron sights. The Aimpoint PRO is awesomely easy to use, and I can just leave it turned on and change the battery once a year. The A1 stock has no levers to fiddle with and fits her just fine. And I think the whole package looks pretty cool, too. I just need a smooth free-float tube and it will be perfect.

I've had one problem, though:  the A1 stock kit went on, easily, and everything seemed to be working, fine, so I tried shooting the gun. It worked flawlessly for about 10 shots, and then I tried to manually lock back the bolt (I hadn't emptied the magazine). I couldn't pull the charge handle all the way back. When I took the stock off, I found that the plastic plug on end of the rifle buffer had broken off inside the buffer tube.

I thought rifle tubes and rifle buffers were all standard size. Is it possible the buffer they sent me was too long? Or is the buffer supposed to hit the back of the tube, and I just had a buffer with a bad plug that broke instead of bouncing?

A1 and A2 Rifle Bufers are identical.
The A2 tube is the same length, but has an extra spacer at the back to make up for the extra 1" stock.

Please post a pic of the damaged buffer.

Doesn't seem to be any actual damage to anything. No marks on the buffer tube, bolt carrier, or charging handle.

Looks like you simply got a bad one. Replace, and you should be fine. Make sure you got all the bits out of the tube.
