That is the question.
I have a 20" WOA SS barrel on one of my ARs and it has some weight issues. I'm looking to take some weight off but not sure how much I'm really going to gain in weight savings versus the cost of having the work done. Now I could have it cut down to 18" or 16" inches and be done with it. Or I can leave the length alone and have it fluted. Or I can cut it down and flute it anyway. I'm curious if anyone else out there has had something similar done and if they felt it was worth it. Stand by for poll. FYI: I'm planning on have ADCO do the work. Just the fluting is $120. Just the cutting crowning and rethreading is $65. |

Keep as is... I grab my 20" with my vortex on top and it's not a big deal...it's that type of weapon... I have a cqb weapon, and others... I just a couple days ago heard my gf say a build was heavy... If its under 10# leave it alone...unless there is an issue with the performance of it... Ymmv Bret |

There's other ways to lose weight.
That said I cut my own 20" H-bar to 16." Some port work is required. If it's a rifle buffer system they tend to run fine. If it's a carbine buffer an H or H2 may be needed. Mine was done because I wanted a shorter rifle, not for weight issues (though it does balance and swing marginally better). If a weight loss is really what's desired have the barrel re-profiled instead. |
