I got it in my mind to build an AR. The wife asked me if I had any idea how to put one together and I said "no, and that's the point of doing it!"
Since this is my first build, I decided to get a completed upper and just build the lower. I'll do a complete build for my next project, which will hopefully be soon after the pricing gets back to normal.

So I set about doing research and buying parts here and there when I found a deal. Now I've got everything ordered, and am just waiting on the last few parts to come in.
I'll post pictures as soon as it is complete.

Here is the parts break down:
Upper: Troy CQB upper receiver - http://troyind.com/%20/weapon-upgrades/upper-receivers/16-cqb-upper-receiver
This comes with Troy folding iron sights and the Troy Modular Front Battlegrip
I got such a good deal on it that it would have cost several hundred more to build it.

Lower:
Mega Gator stripped lower - http://megaarms.com/ar-15/lower-receivers/forged-lower/
Stock- Magpul STR- Milspec- black http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG470/171
Grip- Magpul MOE+ Milspec- black  http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG416/39
Bushmaster LPK
Trigger- Geissele Super Dynamic 3 Gun - http://geissele.com/superdynamic3gun.aspx
Stock assembly- Spike's Carbine Buffer Assembly Kit - http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/lower-kit-spikes-carbine-buffer-assembly-kit-p-315.html

Optics:
Other than the aforementioned Troy folding iron sights...
Trijicon Acog TA 33H- red reticle - http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=TA33-H
Mount- LaRue Tactical ACOG Mount QD LT100 - http://www.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-acog-mount-qd-lt-100

Thanks,
I learned so much by doing all of the research for this project. I'm sure I'll learn a lot more when I start piecing it together.

Everyone starts out like you. Nobody is born knowing how to build an AR. I bought my first one, after I took it apart a few times and became familiar with it, I was like dam why did I buy it. Sold it after I had build a few, the first step is always building the lower, the upper requires some more tools. Once you get the hang of it you'll want to move on to the harder stuff like retro AR's.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I've gotten a few things in so far: grip, stock assembly, upper, and acog. Everything else is coming in (hopefully) next week.

Should have the build done by this weekend.
