Hello everyone,
I just put my second AR together and I'm having some feed issues. It has approx 60(very frustrating) rounds thru it and almost every time a round attempts to chamber the tip of the round hits just below the ramps and "jams". On occasion I can get 2 rounds to feed consecutively, but this happens very seldom. I've tried different mags (used GI, new GI, Poly), rounds (hot loads, steel bulk ammo, ballistic tip, FMJ and hollow points) and I've even tried a different lower. Im thinking its that the ramps weren't cut right or possibly the BCG? Any suggestions before I contact M&A (where I got it from)? Thanks to everyone in advance! |
| Upper is very clean and has a light coat of rem oil; I spray it with rem oil and the wipe it out with a silicone cloth so that only a very very light film is left. The BCG is also very clean (no carbon) and I have completely broken down the BCG to verify no carbon. I've been running the BCG on the verge of dry (more so than the rest of the upper). |

Also when i initially charge it to fire about 50% of the time it will chamber but almost never will it pull a second round in. I have tried with one round in mag and the bolt will hold on the follower, so I believe the carrier is cycling properly.
Essentially the round will either chamber or end up with a "flat tip" and hold on the small flat spot below the ramps. |

Why are you running your brand new BCG almost dry? Others will disagree with me, but brand new it needs to be lubed up and broken in over 150-200 rds. Cleaned, and then run with light oil if that is what you want. Can you take pics of the jams, and your feedramps? ETA: Build specs on relevant parts? |

You'll need to do one of the following-
Replace barrel (extension) Replace upper receiver Or least expensive option - re-cut the feed ramps in barrel extension to match upper receiver cuts. As alluded to above - you have a rifle cut barrel extension with an M4 cut upper receiver. That lip is catching the tip of the bullet and it'll continue to do so until you remedy it. There is a couple other threads within the past few days with people re-cutting or cleaning up their feed ramps and the tools they are using. If you're handy in a garage shop, you can do this yourself. |

Thanks guys! After I took the picture I kind of figured that was the problem I will probably try it myself, this doesn't look tough to do. A dremel, smooth stone and a little patience. Thanks again guys, this forum is fantastic!!! Suggest you find and follow the recent thread concerning this. It will save you learning curve time and probably help you achieve a better result. |
