I am looking to build my first AR. Can somebody give me a list of everything I need or a link to what all I need. I know about the lower receiver and LPK. Not really sure when it comes to the upper receiver. I have been shopping around to find the best deal on everything. Want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.

Thanks

Since this is your first, I would look into buying a complete upper. A complete upper would already be assembled and bring it's own bolt carrier group and charging handle. Then you would assemble your lower and install your upper on it. For the lower you'll need some punches, a hammer and the wrench to install the buffer tube.

There's some videos on youtube that show you  what you need to build an ar15 and what you need. Also, the brownells videos.

Complete upper

Bolt Carrier Group (some manufacturers include this with the upper)

Lower parts kit w/ trigger group, stock, buffer tube, buffer and spring.  Palmetto State Armory sells kits that nicely fit that description.  Here's a link for one without a trigger.  If you want a really nice trigger, order a Geisselle SSA or you can go with an entry level trigger both of which are here at PSA.  My advice, buy an upgraded trigger.  Best improvement you will make to your rifle. Expect 2-3 weeks for delivery from PSA.

Stripped lower receiver - you can purchase these face to face for in state transfers in most state, or through an FFL if you find one on the internet.  If the FFL charges you more than $30, consider finding another FFL.

I knew about the lower receiver and lpk. I wasn't sure if a complete upper would have everything I need or not. Now I know that I still have to get a bcg besides a complete upper. Can't decide on what length I want. What do most people use? Any advantage to one over another?
