| i was in walmart today and saw these scopes for around $70 for 4x16x40. has all kinds of bells and whistles and most of the reviews are good, but i was wondering if anyone around here had ever used them and what your experience was. it's going on my 300 blk. money is running short so i was looking at some low end scope options until i can afford something better then keep it as a back up. the higher magnification is what caught my eye over the trusty bushnel banner. thanks in advance for the input. |

I was one of the lucky ones who got a Troy Carbine from Dicks during the Black Friday sale. I told my wife "oh well ya see I'm going to put a scope on it and use it as a varmint gun"
Christmas morning comes and whats under the tree for me....a Centerpoint 4x16 that my daughter bought for me with her baby sitting money. Not exactly what I would have chosen for myself. But It was a gift from my daughter so I'm stuck with it. Its big and heavy and looks odd on the Troy carbine. But So far it seems to be OK and holds zero. What I don't like about it is 1) eye relief and eye centering is critical to a sight picture 2) above a 12x magnification it whites out in some light conditions 3) as you move up in magnifaction the edges get very fuzzy |

I have one, model AR22 I think, on my Marlin/Glenfield 75. Its a variable 3-9 power with illuminated reticle. Its great on my 22. No problems. I had. 4-16 and loved it. Sold it for what I paid for it during the peak of the panic. I would highly reccomend one. |
| I have had a 4x16 on my Rem 700 .308 for many years and have never had any issues with it. It is kinda heavy and there's much better glass out there, but for less than $100 it's been good. I've thought about upgrading to something better, but there's no need to fix something that's not broken. |

that's the only thing i didn't like about it was the weight. i mounted it on my CMMG .556 just to get an idea of how heavy it would make the gun and it adds significant weight. one other thing i noticed was the illumination for the reticle seems to cause more glare in the scope than normal. you can see the light around the edges of the glass and it just looks cheaply made. i took it outside and looked down the street and was kind of impressed how clear it was at 16x, but my expectations weren't very high to begin with after reading some reviews. it was pretty cloudy yesterday so im anxious to see what it looks like on a sunny day. i'm going to leave it on my .556 for a couple days and try to shoot it this weekend and go from there.
I saw on basspro.com lastnight that they have the nikon prostaff 4x12x40 scopes on sale for 150 so it's a little hard to pass that up as well. |
