So as long at its a "mid-length" it will do what im looking for? Also I see alot sell by the "inch" size...what size is the midlength system? I don't think that mid length (9") will cover completely. Specter length as mentioned above was designed for your purpose. I believe that they're 10"+ Measure what you need and then check the Yankee Hill Machine website for more details. |

My YHM Diamond "Specter" length just showed up 2 days ago.
I don't have it installed yet, but with the barrel nut screwed into the forend, not counting the little bit of top rail that extends to meet the upper, it is exactly 9 3/4" long, measured using an aluminum yardstick ( not a tape. ) It's supposed to cover a JP low profile gas block I ordered, when matched with a 16" carbine gas barrel. Hope this helps. |

The only Free Float hand guards I use are APEX. Their mid length hand guard will cover your gas block. I have 2 of them on carbine gas rifles. Oh, they are 9 inches. Check them out at Rainier Arms Solid as a rock, and you can put rails where YOU want them. |

Is there a hand-guard for a 16' carbine system that will extend even further out?....maybe a 13'' hand guard on a 16'' barrel? I would assume, if you are using a low profile gas block, and a 16" barrel w/ carbine length gas port that you can use any FF forend longer than the YHM Specter 9 3/4" model. Anything shorter and the end cap would hit the gas block, or the gas block would stick out. This assumption is based on the fact that the special "specter" length from YHM is made specifically to hide the gas block, and its 1/2" longer than their mid-length. In other words, they added 1/2" to their mid length to hide the gas block. This wont prevent you from adding another mile Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here. Personally, I went with a little bit heavier "Diamond" series forend, as opposed to the "light" series. The forends are actually fairly heavy, and I didn't want a whole hell of alot of weight hanging out the front. If you go with a longer one, you might consider one of the "light" models that aren't as heavy. Just something to consider. Although, the upside to a heavy front end is less muzzle rise. |
