I am building a upper and have a new DPMS forward assist assy that I received from a well known retailer. The roll pin is the correct size but the hole in the FA plunger is so small that I can only get a needle to pass thru it. No way is the roll pin going to pass thru the hole. I cannot even get my smallest punch thru the hole. Can I just enlarge the hole with a drill? I am guessing that the hole is off spec and needs to be enlarged because my roll pin is spec at 0.625X0.093 dia or 3/32X5/8. The difference between the roll pin dia and the hole is huge.

You should be able to use a #3 roll pin punch to knock it in there that is equal to 3/32" so Maybe use a 5/64" drill bit which is one step down then retry, if not then use the 5/64" bit and waddle it just a hair and retry. Slow and steady and it should work out.

Perhaps I am confused or we are all confused but there is no hole in the fa plunger for a pin to pass through.  Orient the Fa so the tooth is pointing towards the bolt channel, push it all the way in and drive the pin through the upper and lower holes in the receiver.  The roll pin just retains the FA assembly it doesn't pass through any hole in the FA.

You are 100% correct, the roll pin that holds the FA into the receiver does not got through any hole in the FA.

I read this earlier and thought he was talking about the role pin hole on the upper but after reading your reply and then rereading the OP I am confused now also on where he is referring to.

LOL - a comedy of mis-communications.

Upper receiver not lower

Forward assist does NOT have a hole in it that is intended for a roll pin.

If you are talking about the upper receiver roll pin hole, clear it out carefully
as described above. Probably partially filled in by the finish and needs to be chased.

I meant upper not lower and I know there isnt a hole in the FA itself, didnt read it that way first, thats why I posted

I got it installed. Stupid me, I thought that the roll pin was supposed to go in thru receiver and thru a hole in the FA, I did not realize that the FA plunger was simply held in by tension against it by the roll pin. I wish to thank everyone for their help.

Building and learning is half the fun in my opinion.

I installed my first FA upside-down.
