While attempting to build the first lower I've ever done by myself I sent the detent spring for the rear takedown pin sailing across the room and can't find it.  Seems like most of the regular suppliers are pretty backed up with shipping right now so I was hoping you guys might know somewhere I could get one in a few days.  On another note, anyone have any tricks for compressing that spring enough to clear the end plate on the buffer tube?  With the nut backed all the way off on the buffer tube I only had about a 1/4" clearance between the plate and the receiver and was having a heck of a time compressing that spring enough to get the last 1/4 turn on the tube.  I've only built one other lower and that was 5 years ago with help and don't remember how we did it.   I though the front pin was supposed to be the hard one, lol.  Thanks guys.

Small parts?  The Citizens Armory

The detent spring?  I thread the hole and use a small 4-40 set screw to hold it in place.  There's a thread on that trick.  Otherwise your could try compressing using a blade...

I ordered some small parts from Brownells a couple of weeks ago and they sent them right out. No guarantees that is always the case but I had the parts in 3 days. Brownells Rear Detent Springs

BTW - I like that idea of threading/plugging the spring - might have to try that! Normally I just use a business or credit card to hold the spring then slide it out.

Thanks for the help guys.  Love the idea of threading the hole, credit card idea is a good one too, wish I would have known about it before my spring got launched, lol.

scavenge a spring out of a used up Bic lighter, they are virtually the same size!! u may have to clip a bit off but the diameter is spot on...

I'm not a prime customer and got it in 2 days. I may just live close enough to receive it that quick.

Edit: shipped from Lawrenceburg IN USPS same day I ordered

Use a small gob of white grease on the spring and stick it in the hole. It will stay there and lube the spring for it's life. I got this tip watching a video of Mr. Potterfield (MidwayUSA Owner).

Thanks for all the tips guys.  I ended up finding the spring, after searching the entire room it wasn't 3 feet from where I was sitting when it launched, lol.  I was in a corner so I'm guessing it bounced off the two walls and came back towards me.  I have one more PSA lower build kit to do another lower but my brother in law just bought his first AR and wants to watch me do it so I'm going to wait on him.  Hopefully I got all the rookie mistakes out of the way on this one and will look like a pro on the next one.
