Sup fellas- my name is Jimmy Mac and I'm a newb here. After owning various long guns, handguns and 2 AK's I bought my first two AR's by selling off some of my other rifles. Have a Bushmaster XM15-e2s and just picked up a new Head Down Products HDX M4 (they are a local build shop and only sell to Law Enforcement and Pub Safety- I work for the fire department and one of our officers hooked me up)
http://www.hdrifles.co/rifles/hdx_m4.cfm Just got my Primary Arms M3 clone and BUIS- I'm about to order a low profile gas block and new quad rail. I'm wondering if I should go with a specter or rifle length rail-- rifle will be used at range, SHTF, home defense and general plinking. Would like to use it on a few hog hunts instead of my AK or 30/06. For the most part I prefer the look of the longer rail and may use bipod occasionally, vertical grip and possibly dual flashlights when staged for home defense. As a FireMedic I can tell you whatever you need if you find yourself dying or on fire, but look to y'all for help and advice on all things AR related... For my purpose do you recommend I go with Specter or Rifle length on my quad? thanks for the help in advance and I've learned a lot already reading some of the posts. Happy to have finally registered an account. -JIMMY MAC |

This is really a personal preference sort of thing as the difference between rail sizes really doesn't directly effect function.
If weight is a concern (carrying it on long hunts) go with the shorter, lighter. If attachments are a priority, look for the one that offers the better/more/stronger/positioned mount points for whatever you're mounting. If they are a wash for doing what you want them to do, then pick the one that is more visually appealing. Hell, buy both, swap 'em back and forth :) |
