Do you have to use any grease or oil when assembling a lower receiver?
Yes.
It helps the pins go in easily and for things like the springs and detents it's your opportunity to lube them well the first time. The springs are steel, they can bind and will rust if not preserved. That's regular maintenance too. I grease my buffer springs as well, to reduce sproing. |

I like to grease my trigger and hammer pins with a little moly grease (or any kind you have onhand) just to keep the m lubricated over the long term. Any other locations is totally unnecessary, but again, it doesn't matter if you do or don't. I do NOT grease my spring/buffer. Doing so can potentially slow the action and will collect dust. Sproing is a GOOD thing as it directly informs the shooter when the last round is fired (or a malfunction) as the "sproing" is not present when the bolt is locked to the rear. To each their own. |
