A couple of newb questions...

Is there a torqe spec for the castle nut on the buffer tube?

What is the correct way to hold (clamp?) the lower reciever when torque down the castle nut and staking it as well.

Thanks!

There probably is a proper torque spec, but I just tighten it down good enough then stake it.

I use a magwell block held in a vice to hold the receiver for installing. Lay in on the bench top for the staking part.

40ft lb is spec.  I place mine in the vice between rubber jaws, blocks of wood will work if you don't have other soft jaws.  Tighten to 40ft lb and stake it in place.  Make sure the stock is straight before you stake it.

I've assembled 6 lowers with collapsible stock receiver extensions and feel I've got it down to a science now.

I use a magwell block in my bench vise to holder the lower. Heck, I use the magwell block for a lot of things because it frees up my hands. It's a cheap investment.

I apply a little grease (Tetra) to the receiver extension threads because it makes installation of it and the castle nut a bit smoother.

After I get everything hand tightened I break out the Hammerhead tool with my beam torque wrench, slide it over the receiver extension onto the castle nut, torque it up to the TM spec (40 ft. lbs +/- 2 ft lbs) and stake the latch plate when I'm done.
