I have a lower that i built with a seekins billet magazine release button; i went to remove the magazine release in order to put the seekins button on a different lower and i can not remove the magazine catch/button.  I think i unscrewed the mag catch dozens of rotations without any luck in removing it.  Any thoughts?  Is it possible for the mag catch or the button to strip?  If so, what is my next step?   Any help is appreciated; thanks.

I think the bullet button either requires a screwdriver or allen key to remove it, I don't have one so I'm not quite sure how it works, just going off memory.

As you have loosened it "dozens" of times, has it changed in orientation at all? Are you pressing the button in too far, thus allowing the button to rotate inside the receiver as you are turning the catch on the left side? The button should sit still while the catch rotates. Right?

Doesn't look like it.

When i say "bullet button" i mean the mag release button.  I initially thought it was because i was pushing it too far in and it was rotating but thats not the case.  The button is not moving yet the mag catch is rotating counterclockwise.  Visually it looks no different; it literally seems like the mag release threads are just spinning in the mag release button.  I've built about a half dozen lowers and i've never heard of this or had any issues but its the only aftermarket mag release button i've used.  I contacted seekins but haven't heard back yet.

Is there a way to put back pressure on the catch lever while you spin it to the left? Some way to hold the button still from the inside of the receiver to see if you can get the threads to bite?

That's a pretty strange condition you are describing!

Haha, I thought the op misspelled bullet and was referring to the california bullet button. My mistake, sorry.
If you can grab the button, somehow,.and pull backwards (away from the mag release) while spinning the catch, it probably will come apart. I'm thinking it may be fubar though after that. Worse comes to worse you could pull out the catch as far a possable and cut the shaft.

Edit: if the threads had loctite on them you could have stripped them, maybe.

Thanks for the input guys; i'll see what i can do tonight without destroying the seekins button.  If i can't get it off it does seem to work/function properly as is so i guess i could leave it together although i won't be using it as a SHTF lower like that.  I'll update when i can.

Pictures would be good. I would think that if it is stripped it will let loose at some point. I might use a punch from the button side and remove it. Are you sure the shaft is moving? Or did it break loose on the catch side?

Ok i figured out the problem last night; lets see if i can explain it.   The actual "catch" portion that sits in the grove on the "left" side of the receiver was stripped and spilling around the "rod" portion that goes through the receiver and then threads into the release button.  So the threads were never moving in the button itself.  I had to cut it where the two meet and then pull the button out of the right side of the receiver which i was then able to unscrew the button from the threaded portion of the catch.  Has anyone else ever seen this happen?  I salvaged the billet button just fine but obviously have to get a new magazine catch.

I learned a long time ago that there is nothing new under the sun. If it's happened to you, it's happened to a few thousand other folks also - I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean a dang thing.

Seems like a pretty random problem. Heck, for all I know, I stripped mine when I installed it but since I have never tried to UNinstall it, I don't know! LOL!
