I just ordered a few 80% lowers for a winter project, and I noticed the finish is a bit rough.  (pre anodized)
It's not that big of a deal because these are just beater guns we are building.
Some have minor scratches and gouges in the metal forging before anodizing.  Kinda like seconds or blems might look.
I was wondering if this is typical.

Thanks,

Ares Armor.  They seemed to have pretty good reviews from the few that I saw.

The metal is fairly soft (pre-ano) so it is quite possible that there is damage to your soon to be lower that would look like that just from careless handling . Given the demand that's out there for them I could see banged up one getting through QC. That said no it it not typical of ones that I have seen,

Polish them up before you anodize them.

I would, but they are pre-anodized. Or should I say, they are already anodized.  I probably used the wrong term.
And these are flaws that polishing won't take care of.  Maybe some sanding, then polishing.

Some receivers, whether 80% or factory, will have the "blemishes" that you describe from the forging process or poor handling. Just the nature of the beast with a mass produced firearm.

Thanks for all the info.  I have to say that Ares Armor is good to work with.

They just said send them back in and we will hand pick some for you.  Can't beat that for customer service.

That is what I thought too, but 5 out of 5 seemed a bit much.
But either way,  they are going to take care of it.

Next time, buy from Tactical Machining.  You don't have any external features to cut, and you can even order them pre-anodized, the FCG pocket will just be bare unless you coat it.
