I'm building my first AR and have a question. I'm building a 16" mid length and already have purchased a 9" Troy Alpha Battle rail. Do I need a low profile gas block with that configuration?

I haven't decided yet if I want to change to an 11" rail, in which I know I would need a low profile.  I'm thinking for now though of doing the 9" and possibly a fixed front sight on the gas block

Thanks

No need for a low pro gas block with that setup. 9" is the correct length rail for a middy and a FSP.

Great, that's what I was thinking, I appreciate the confirmation.

One more question- what if I went with a carbine profile instead of midlength- would I need a low profile block then if using a 9" free float handguard?

Thanks

Yes
A carbine handguard is 7", so any handguard longer than that on a carbine gas barrel, needs a low profile gas block.

I'm thinking of getting a gas block with the picatinny rail on it but was wondering if these rails typically flush up with something like the 9" Troy Alpha Battle Rail? More for aesthetic reasons I don't want a gap between the rail on my handguard and the rail on the gas block-
These are the 2 I'm thinking of - if anyone knows if these would flush up or not?
