Hi All,
My shooting buddy and I are in the process of getting everything together for our first lower build. We each got a Spike's tactical lower, and ordered two lower parts kits minus the triggers from John Hollinger at White Oak Armament, I also have a set of AR-15 punches on the way, and a take-down pin installation tool coming as well. My biggest dillima is which trigger to get, my rifle will be a general purpose rifle, right now Im leaning twords the RRA NM trigger plus a set of yellow JP springs, the price of that trigger set up will be $112.00. The other trigger Im considering is the ACT defence trigger from White Oak Armament, along with the JP yellow power springs, the price of that trigger set up will be $77.00. I know there's not alot of differnce in price, but I would like your opinions on which trigger might be the best for a general purpose rifle. I like the Gieselles but they are out of my price range right now. Also any advice on building my first lower will be greatly appriciated, I think I have ordered all the proper tools for the job. Hopfully you more experianced builders can help a rookie avoid some of the pitfalls rookies make with their first builds.
Thanks,
Paul

Some good info here...

For general purpose I'd probably go with the Spikes battle trigger, they're about $55.00, but there are other options out there also.

I just posted this in another thread:

Quoted:
I put the ALG-D QMS in a new lower saturday. Shot it yesterday. I was very impressed. It is not a compitition trigger by any means, but it is very clean. Mine has virtually no pre travel and no over travel. The reset is short and clean. There is no grit what so ever. Very smooth action. I haven't check the weight yet, but it feels between 4-5lbs. I used JP yellow trigger and red hammer springs. Best milspec trigger i own. Well worth the $45.

I also highly recommend these triggers.

I think the only difference between the ALG Defense triggers, ACT or QMS, is the ACT is coated and it is $20 more. I don't see a need in a coated trigger. I've never needed one.

Triggers are easy to replace. You might want to try the trigger that comes with the lower kit. Add the JP yellow springs and try it out. I have 1 AR with a milspec trigger and 2 others with milspec triggers and JP yellow  springs. I like them all. The milspec triggers have a little more pre-travel and grit feel compared to the ALG-D triggers, but they are functional and will always work. However, you will not regret spending the extra $45 on the ALG-D QMS.
