I am new to the AR platform and want to purchase a 3H 16" flat top. I have spent a lot of time since I joined the forum reading and learning about the different options and configurations available. There is far more information than I have time to read about before I purchase and am hoping to get some experienced opinions.

I like the A2 front sight, is there an advantage to the A2 over the gas block and a fold down front sight?

I also like the rear flip up sights but also like the carry handle. Any advantage of one over the other?

I plan to use the rifle mainly for CQB training and close range target shooting, I don't plan on adding any optics any time soon only iron sights.

Thanks for any help.

With irons only, the A2 front and carry handle would be your most robust option.  You could also use a chopped carry handle type like the LMT.

Many people choose to run the front sight due to the fact that it's pretty damn solid and not really a chance of damaging it.

Flip up rear sights are nice, and a great option for rifles with optics.

If I were you I would run a carry handle for now because they can be picked up used fairly cheap.  If your front sight is F marked, be sure you get the right carry handle.  You will want one that the aperature sits flush with the housing and not lower than the housing.

Best of both worlds:  flat top with removable A2 carry handle.  When you're ready for an optic, remove the handle assembly.
