I have a YHM FF on my rifle. I had a buddy install the barrel and FF because I didn't have a vise at the time. I noticed that the FF is slightly miss aligned with the upper. I tried to re-align it but the set screws kept finding they're way back to the old spot. I was thinking that I might take the FF off and tighten the barrel nut 1 gas tube hole then re-install. Can this be done without damage to the barrel nut? Can a barrel nut be reused once it has been torqued? I'm going to be putting an Aimpoint T1 on and want it forward enough to leave room for a magnifier in the future. Will they both fit on the upper or will I have to put the T1 on the FF? If they will both fit on the upper then I'll just leave it as is. Thanks Nomad6977 |

If the barrel nut was torqued properly, you probably wont be able to get it to the next gas tube hole. Losen the screws slightly, bridge the gap with a sight base or something similar, tighten down the screws, remove the sight base and go with it. |

That's asking for trouble. If the barrel nut is tight don't mess with it. You well not be able to turn it to the next gas tube slot. Align the tube and upper, then tighten the set screws, use some loctite. I have a Todd Jarret YHM tube and it uses a jam nut (tension ring) and anti-rotation screws. Tighten the jam nut first and then the anti-rotation screws. |
