I knew the torque was supposed to be set at 30 lbs for the barrel nut, however the gas tube line up was just shy of that by a fraction of a turn, probably only needed to back off a 10th of an inch (barely had to move the torque wrench to achieve line up).  My question is will everything be OK with slightly less i would guess 28-29+ lbs of torque on the barrel nut?  I would go back and re-torque, but I have a stripped set screw on the hand guard that will need to be removed that I would rather not fuss with.  I did not realize I could go over the 30 ft. lbs. on the torque wrench.  Thanks for the help!

spec calls for 30-80 ft-lbs

use less than that at your own risk, IMO

You can't 'back off' of a torque, soon as you do, all torque is gone and you must start over.
Ideally you should use lube, torque to 30, back off. Torque to 30, back off, torque to 30 and back completely off again.
Then verify wrench setting somewhere between 30 & 80 ft/lbs (I set mine to 55) and torque until the gas tube
hole lines up. If you have to reverse, start all over.
