Anyone ever cut their FSB without removing it? Just wondering if dremeling it down while on the gun will stress the barrel.

Not as long as you keep things reasonably cool.

This has posted here a dozens times or more so a search may help. Also in the tacked threads at the top of the forum is a  step by step how to with the FSB off the rifle. most applies to what you are doing.

I appreciate it. I searched using the site's search function and came up empty (I wonder if that function works 'cause it always returns 0 results when I use it). A generic Google search actually pointed me to the tacked post in the builds section and a couple others.

The search feature is terrible. Did you see the tacked thread  at the top of this forum.? The how to has your info about 2/3rds of the way into it

EDIT The "assembly your own" thread

Yep, I found it thanks. I also ran across a couple threads from guys who did it with the FSB pinned so I'm gonna run that route. With 9 days til rifle season opener I don't what to mess up my high end krylon job pulling that FSB off.

Ever see a FSB that someone cut without removing it from the barrel?

The FSB was kind of rough, but the damage to the barrel from all of the slips of the grinder was what killed it for me.

BTW-no amount of painting and cover-up will fix a ugly,ground-up barrel.

Do yourself a favor and remove the FSB before you touch any power tools to it.

The search engine sucks on this forum.  you are better off Googling and using AR15 in the search.  It will find it faster and better than the search.

I hear ya Herk, the only way I've found anything here is through Google. Not shittin on the forum, there's a ton of good dope and helpful people here.

I sacked up and hit the FSB with a hacksaw, then the dremel and krylon. 30 minutes and the FSB/FSP no longer clutter my optics. It didn't turn out too shabby and I managed to not hit the barrel or handguard cap so I left no scars. I'll post up a pic when I get home.

So here's how it turned out.

Nevermind, posting pics didn't work like I thought it would.
