Hey Everyone,
I am victim of a very low post count so please excuse the questions before the contribution. With that said, I have an AR-10 with a pinned VLTOR buttstock, and I really want to have it swapped out with a
Magpul PRS Precision-Adjustable Stock.  As a NJ resident it's a terrible law as some of you know that I cannot have an adjustable / foldable / telescoping stock.  Mine is pinned and was wondering what I would need to do to get the new buttstock on.  Do I need to replace the buffer tube along with it?  Is this something I can do or do I need to have it sent to a gunsmith? I am not really sure what they do when they pin it, I just know it's permanent.  When I received this rifle, my FFL wouldn't even touch it because it wasn't pinned. I had to jump through hoops to find an FFL in NJ with a class 3.  Is it just going to be the same hassle? Any info would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

Should be able to see the pin job.  Many times it's only on one side and not drilled all the way through making it more or less permanent as it will possibly be a small hassle to remove the pin.  Since a shop did it they may have drilled through both sides of the stock.  If that's the case just knock the pin out and off it will come.  If only drilled and pinned from one side the easiest removal is to run a small drill bit through the pin if they used a roll pin.  This will be a pilot hole to then drill the same diameter hole in other side of the stock as the roll pin diameter.  Drive out the roll pin and stock will come off.  Haven't seen what you have but that's how most mfgs did them that I've seen.  You can then do the same with the new stock.  Only drill through one side of the stock and when you install the pin it's more or less permanent.   You need to make sure your existing tube and new stock are where you want it at length of pull before pinning.  Your buffer tube should have 4 or 6 positions since it wasn't a fixed stock to begin with.

If they used a solid pin it's gonna be a little harder to remove.  With a small drill bit start drilling the center of the  pin.  Drill press would be best but you can use a hand drill, just be careful not to slip and mess things up.    If you can get the pin to spin and drill to stick you can probably yank it on out at this point.  At worse if you can get the bit to bite,  remove bit from drill,  grab bit with vise grips and tap on vgrips to get the pin out with a small mallet.  Regardless of how they did the install you should be able to figure it out.

Look for the pin in the stock!  See if it goes all the way through!  If it doesn't then it's gotta come out the way it went in.  If it does go all the way through then it should come out in either direction.

Since yours was not a fixed stock to begin with once pin is removed don't forget that you will need to raise the lever to get the stock off the buffer tube just like you were changing adjustment but higher to release from tube..  Hope this helps.   Good luck.

PRS is a fixed stock - you're not reusing the receiver extension you have now.  Don't worry about unpinning anything.  Remove old, mount new.
