Just bought my first lower receiver to start the journey to building my first AR platform and was wondering what are some of your thoughts on Aero Precision lowers and what LPK to go with. Also single stage triger vs two stage trigger?

Welcome to the dark side.

Aero Precision lowers have a good reputation.  As for a LPK there are several that I've used and like: DPMS, PSA, CMMG, and Bushmaster are my favorite basic kits.  If this is your first AR and not just your first build, I would stick with the trigger that comes with the LPK.  You can always swap it out later when you learn what you like and don't like.  I have used the JP Enterprises adjustable trigger and really like it.  I favor single stage over two stage.

If you haven't alread gone there, the Oregon Home Town Forum has some great people and there may be some local help if you need it.

I use the stock trigger because I like to train on the principle rifles are *somewhat* disposable/interchangeable and that being used to what virtually any AR would be like is better than having just 1 rifles that's really swell. It won't be swell if you're using a different one to save your life and your mind is stumbling because it's like WTF, this sucks! Your mileage may vary...

AP makes good quality lowers, no worries. LPK are only made by a few vendors and resold by many... most are fine, if this is a basic build go with whats in stock at a good price...

I like a 2 stage trigger. The take-up just feels like I am more  in control. I can load it against the sear and break the shot when I want.

Stock triggers suck. One of the best thing you can do to improve your shooting is a really good trigger.

I use WOA LPK's. They have great parts and I have never had an issue. They come with out FCG so I can buy the Geissele trigger of my choice.

Aero Precision is a fine lower...you shouldn't have any problems there....

As far as triggers go...there is an innumerable amount of options that you can go with. It all really depends on what you want, and what you want to do with the rifle. If you are building a long range, sit on the bench type...I would have to suggest a good two stage trigger. If you want a solid reliable under heavy pressure and abuse...go with the single stage trigger in my opinion. You can get a LPK with or without a fire control group. If you want the stock...basic...crappy, gritty, heavy, standard AR trigger...get the cheapest LPK you can find. Most of the LPK's are put together from the same manufacturers. DPMS, CMMG, Bushmaster, Etc...I'm pretty sure draw all of their parts from the same bin and package em differently and sell em basically (from what I've heard). I BELIEVE (not 100%) that PSA 2nd gen LPK should be of at least slightly better quality...I am still waiting on my kit to come in, however, so I cannot speak from firsthand experience. Spike's Tactical also makes a good LPK...but it's hard to get your hands on one at the moment (or anything of Spike's for that matter).

There are a few things that you might be able to do to help a crappy stock trigger become an at least decent trigger...but you have to have some common sense and experience to not go crazy and make an unsafe gun...

So...if you want stock basic...get the cheapest LPK you can find...basically all the same parts and won't make a difference. If you want a good single stage...buy a cheap LPK without the FCG and get an individual single stage (or even a drop in...Timney does good work). Or a 2 stage...again cheap LPK without the FCG and an individual two stage...

It all really boils down to what you intend to use your rifle for, your personal preferences, and how much money you are willing to drop into a trigger group

Go to You tube and search for videos.  There are other sources for learning.

Just be very careful installing the roll pin for trigger guard.  Many people have broken those ears off.  Use common sense and you will be fine.  Just be careful with putting roll pins in to not scratch the finish.

Welcome to the dark side as stated before.

Thanks guys for welcome and the info. This is my first black rifle for me. My main reason is for it home defense but I'm thinking of doing some comps with it. I also have a chance to purchase a spikes tactical lower. What's the outlook on these?

The lowers themselves are fine. Some of the roll marks are interesting. Not a big fan of the Vulcan penis roll mark(Spikes spider logo).
