Good morning. I have been lurking the board for the past month trying to read up on as many topics as possible. I am an avid hunter and enjoy shooting, but until recently I have never had even a remote want to own a gun like an AR. That was until I shot one at the range and then my interest peaked. Now that I have seen how you can customize them, I am even more excited for my first build. I was hoping some of you could provide some guidance as I think I have a pretty good baseline for 2 options, but would like any input that can be offered. I want to stay less than $1500 for my first build (not including optics). Lastly, if there is something that I have forgot, please don't hesitate to point it out.
Option 1: Lower Receiver: Spikes Spider (Fire/Safe)––- everywhere seems to be sold out but they seem to be available through individual parties LPK: Spikes Enhanced LPK Buffer Kit: Spikes Stock: Magpul MOE Carbine in Black Upper Assembly: BCM Standard 16" Mid Length with Centurion Arms C4 9" Handguard BCG: Spikes Charging Handle: BCM Gunfighter with Large Latch Forend Grip: Magpul MOE Rail Grip in Black Rear Sight: Magpul MBUS Flip-up in Black (haven't heard the best things about these but for the price I heard they are good) Magazines: Magpul Pmag 30 rounds If I shop around, this list should put me right around $1400 with shipping and transfer fees. Option 2: Lower Receiver: PSA Lower Build Kit: MOE Lower Build Kit from PSA that includes MOE stock and grip, and PSA LPK and Buffer Kit Upper Assembly/BCG/Charging Handle/Rear Sight: Midwest Industries / BCM package that includes BCM 16" mid length barrel, MI handguard, MI rear sight, and BCM BCG and Charging Handle (this is currently out of stock but the lady I spoke with in customer service said that at the end of the month it should be available, as well as a new package will be available) Forend Grip: Magpul MOE Rail Grip in Black Magazines: Magpul Pmag 30 rounds This setup is approximately $130-150 cheaper than option 1. Once again, any advice that can be offered would be great. I look forward to being more involved on the board. |

What are you using it for? Gun or flashlight? To be honest, the gun will be mostly for the range and eliminating some hogs. I don't really "hunt" hogs as they are a complete nuissance at the property I deer and bird hunt at. Instead we just shoot them over feed piles. The flashlight I was looking to mount to whichever setup I build. |

I would go with Option 1, but switch out the MBUS for a Troy Folding Battlesight. With a $1500 budget, you're pretty close to a Larue PredatAR, which is an outstanding rifle.
As far as a cheap flashlight: I run a Surefire 6P with a Malkoff M60 drop-in. I got the light with a mount for 50 bucks used and spent another 50 on the drop-in. It's cheap, bright as hell, light weight and works great. You can get a tape-switch endcap if you'd like as well. |

You should consider this option strongly! While my budget is $1500, the guns I am looking to build are in the $1200-1400 range and not $1700+. Additionally, since I have never built one before I think it would be fun to give it a go. I don't really want to just buy one. |

Be advised you might not get what you order from PSA. They are having a lot of problem with the QC in there shipping department. I ordered one of there MOE Plus LPK and received a regular MOE LPK. I'm sure they'll make it right, but who wants to deal with the headaches of shipping stuff back etc. |
