Finally got my AR built!
But I noticed that when I got the sites zeroed at the range, the rear site on the detachable handle is not close to centered. It is more than half way to the left side of the rear site channel. Is this a difficulty with how the detachable handle is mounted? Thanks for any input. |

Normal....ok
I just thought it would be a little closer to the center line. None of my other "iron site" rifles have the rear site so far over under little or no wind conditions, so it seemed a logical question. It makes me wonder if I really need to adjust for windage to the left, I'm over far enough now that perhaps I wouldn't be able to compensate enough under higher wind condtions. Thanks for the input. |

Most fixed iron sight weapons are factory pre-zeroed (per se) at the factory using a rudimentary bore/laser sight.
This is why most often they are roughly centered when the end user gets them. The AR platform, being over-the-top modular, there are too many variables and tolerance stacking to do this with reasonable expectations of accuracy. As said above, you're within spec as long as you CAN zero the weapon. When you can't is when you'll need to adjust parts etc to get back in that window. Since it is on a removable carry handle mounted to a flattop receiver, I'd start with adjusting the carry handle mount to take up the slack should it become an issue. |

I think that unless I'm shooting in pretty severe wind conditions, it shouldn't be a problem. I do have some room to move. I'll have to find a windy day and see! haha |

I began to wonder about the info in red. If I wanted to.............. In order to adjust the carry handle to accomodate the 'too far left' rear site, I'd have to get the handle mounted further left so that I can adjust the rear site toward the center (right). It would seem that the only way to move the carry handle to the left would be to remove material from the inside of the right channel on the handle......sounds like a gunsmiths job to me, yes? I could always dremel the channel out
Seriously, to uniformly remove material from the handle would likely require equipment I don't have, so it'd be off the the smith, I'm guessing. Or shim the left side? |
