I have a spikes mid length 16" upper I want a quad rail on it that has cut out around fsb, the only ones I can find are a lot more than I wanna spend, so I a thinking of buying a cheap 12" quad rail and trying to cut it out my self mainly for practice and if it works I am thinking of buyin the MI 12" and cutting out for the fsb. Question is what holds the quad rail at the end of the barrel towards the muzzle????? has anyone done this before.  If this does not work I am gonna cut down my FSB and put a 12" rail on it but I am still not sure I understand what holds the muzzle end of the rail thanks for any input.

If its a free float quad rail, which it probably is, then nothing is holding the rail at the muzzle end.

I had a gunsmith mill out a front cutout for me for a Switchblock gas block.  Cost me about $65 for the labor.
There are people who have cut their own with a dremel/hacksaw and some files.  Possible, just go slow.

Oh and one more thing... If you're looking at the MI gen 2 2-piece railed handguards....

The 12" standard and 12" with cutout are both $195 on their site...

Last two on this page: MI gen 2

Question for you, I'm getting read to do this on a build; how did you screw on the rail with the switchable gas block poking up?

you gotta use a two piece rail. Switchblock on first, then top rail, then bottom rail.

Almost impossible with a single piece rail unless you do some finagling with moving the rail back and forth while you screw the switchblock down and then sliding the rail the rest of the way back.
