Does anyone have any tips or secrets for removing the A2 front sight base? I was able to get the rear taper pin out with moderate difficulty but the front pin is a no go. I've been tapping and hammering with a punch for two hours now and it hasn't budged. It's a Colt light weight 16" barrel and a non-'F' marked base, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Use a massive punch and really big hammer.  Hit it hard and be sure the FSB / barrel is supported well on a very solid surface like a concrete floor.  Drive the pins from left to right as viewed from the rear looking forward.

FSB Removal per BCM
A carpenter's nail set is the punch to use to get the pin moving, then switch to a conventional drift punch to finish.
Riding it that long, you may have peened the pin (read rivet).
If so, you would have to grind off the peening (mushrooming) and start over.
Be sure to work on a solid base. A soft (wooden, for example) base will reduce the impact (power) of your strikes.

Some will use a HD penetrating oil like KROIL overnight, to loosen things up.

I took a propane torch to the pins that would not come out. It only took a few seconds and then pins came right out.

Thanks all for the replies. I think I'll start with the punches and some break free lube and then try the torch routine. When all else fails move on to the massive punch and giant hammer (must have been an armor guy
