I finally resolved myself to checking the headspace on my new build....I thought that was the hard part.
I've been trying to get the ejector out so I can check it and I'm having a real hard time. My wife has been no help and doesn't seem to care(even though it's her gun) and i'm sweating balls in my garage cause it's still 90+ degrees at 10:30 p.m. Makes for a bad situation.....any help would be appreciated before I screw up my brand new bolt over a problem that most likely doesn't exist Thanks Paul |

Vise. Place bolt into padded vise jaws, one end the bolt face and the other end the bolt tail. Tap out roll pin, ejector retained as you loosen vise jaws to remove bolt. Go low and dont launch the ejector and spring.
Or press ejector and boltface into corner of tabletop. Keep the ejector pressed in as you tap out the roll pin. Or retain ejector in visegrips, dont squash or smash the bolt. Go easy and dont lose parts |
1/16 pin punch......drive out the roll pin......once the roll pin is out.....point it into a zip lock back and THEN pull the punch out.
Some times they are hard to break loose....if you have one of those.....you need two pinches...one real short to start it moving the other to finish it out.Trying to move it form the other side can help as well. Odds are if it is tough getting out you are gonna destroy the pin.....and it is a bitch geting it back in if you've never done it before...I have a vice I made for it....LOL....but I just start the pin and press the ejector in against the side of my metal desk with the drawer edge suupporting it...LOL.....I've done so many it's just quicker.....If you tear up the roll pin...send me a stamped self addressed envelope.....I buy them by the box and I'll drop you a couple in the mail. |

Thanks guys. Got it out without destroying anything.
Wrapped a towel in the vice jaws and put a case mouth down on the vice base and as luck would have it I could compress the ejector against the case and just slide the bolt lugs under the vice jaw. Had to shave down my 1/16" punch a few times to get it to actually fit all the way....got stuck really good with about half the pin out
My biggest concern is always hurting the parts but I figure the case is brass so if anything was gonna bend or flex that would go first. Other than a couple superficial scuffs I think the bolt is unharmed. Pin looks like it has a very slight flare now on the one end but I figure with a little slip 2000 and a pin punch starter I can get it back in....I hope Thanks Paul |
