| I just received my new barrel. I noticed that there are no cuts for the FSB pins. It there a jig for this or is it something I should have a smith do? |

Buy a clamp on version and be done with it. Do they loosen up over time? I would hate to have a floating FSB. Murphy's law dictates that it would come loose when I need it most. There seems to be 4-5 camps on securing an FSB Taper pins Clamp-on Set screws with machined flats Set screws Will they loosen over time ? Hard to quantify that....depends on quality of install and how severe the usage. If it's a weapon that your life depends on go with pins. |

The first AR I ever bought has a clamp on front sight and it is still holding zero. There are folding front sight blocks too if you're worried about a fixed front sight taking a hard blow. More shown here. You could use a low profile gas block and a fixed or folding front sight attached to a free float hand guard. That's what I prefer to do.
If this will be a duty rifle then it would probably be recommended to have pins installed. |
