I am in the process of building my GF her own AR. I am thinking of putting together a dissipator type carbine.
Being that I want to make this AR light weight, I want to put a Magpul MOE forearm on it. If I do, will the lo-pro gas block inside of it get hot enough to melt the plastic forearm? And secondly, what type/brand gas block is going to fit under the forearm? Thanks, Mike Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

On the MOE and A2 hand guards i have used a chopped FSB and it worked. I also used Model# GB100 and that fit without issue as well. For $22 it's cheap enough.
For the front sight I'd recommend the Armalite clamp on front sight base as well. Chopped FSB Armalite combo:

I have used both factory lo pro GBs and chopped down several FSBs for lo pro conversions. Both fit under any FF tube or handguard I have ran across. I currently have a 458 SOCOM that I converted to dissy config. It uses a .936" gas block under Magpul MOE rifle handguards. The barrel in front of GB is .925" and there isnt an A2 clamp on sight base that I have found that would work. I used a railed clamp on GB with a handguard cap screwed to it. Make sure you have a handguard cap, triangle or circle with both work with the MOE. If you thread tap the gas tube hole in your faux FSB you can fix the handguard cap to it so it wont rattle around or move at all. I recommend this solution.
The aformentioned clamp on FSB is good, YHM makes several clamp on flip up front sight bases you could also use if you would want that route. |
