how light can you go when cutting down a AR15 hammer.  I asked because I used a cut down hammer in a new build this weekend and had to many miss-fires due to light firing pin strikes, I have to say it because I cut hammer down to speed it up when hitting pin, but took to much off.

is it possible to maybe drill back of hammer and add some weight back on?  just a thought, might be easier to just buy a new hammer?

Just get a Wolf extra power hammer spring. I did the same thing. The Wolf spring took care of the problem.

so the reasoning is....buy another uneccesary part to repair the screwup caused by uneccesarily modifying the first part?
if you like it, i love it.

He wanted to have a lighter hammer for faster lock time for improved accuracy and ignition reliability. They make speed hammers specifically for this purpose. However the same thing can be accomplished just by cutting down the tail of the stock hammer. Instead of giving up on the speed hammer concept and buying another $20 stock hammer, he can get the desired effect by using a new $3 spring. Uneccesary? Sure, but so are expensive cars and big houses. What really is necessary in our lives? If it's what you want, and it makes you happy, then I say, why not?
