I bought a free float handguard used. It's a one piece RRA solid rail and the previous, previous owner drilled and put a sling swivel in about the 1:00 position.
I want to time the handguard so the hole is in the 6 O'Clock position. I'd like opinions on whether it'd be better to shim the handguard back just over 1/2 a turn (cheaper) or should I dress the face of the receiver so I can tighten the handguard an extra 1/2 turn(more expensive, I don't have a cutter) ? |
| Depending on the amount you would need to take off to "face" it you could simply use a piece of sandpaper on a piece of glass to get it where you need it. Start with a coarse grain and then work down to something finer. I take it this is one of the perfectly round hand guards? What is the material? |

I have never tried it, but heard of people putting a o-ring on the nut before the tube, this will allow you to index it. |
