Im trying to put on a mid length free float rail on my DPMS. I have a gas block and need to put a low pro gas block on but I can't get the gas tube off the gas block and I have removed the pin. Can anyone help a newbie?

If you can get the entire gas block/gas tube off the barrel, set it on a workbench and liberally dribble some Hoppes #9 (or whatever) around the gas block opening where the tube goes into, and some more directly inside the tube, making sure it's flowing all the way down to the gas block, and maybe a squirt or two in the hole where the retaining pin was. Let it sit for a while. Have plenty of rags handy. Then try to ease it out. If that works, make sure you completely clean the inside of the gas tube to remove any latent solvent and crud before reinstalling it in your new gas block. If it doesn't work, forcing it will likely kink the tube, and then you'll need to get a new one. I think the part of the tube at the retaining pin gets a bit swaged, which may be what's making it stubborn. |
