Is it okay to use a regular rifle buffer spring in a carbine stock?

No,
The bolt group will not have enough room to travel back and forth, making the rifle jamb.
Carbine spring and buffer in carbine extension tube.
Rifle spring and buffer in rifle extension tube.
Don't mix the parts.

David Tubb's spring is said to work in both.
