Well tax time is upon us and its finally time for me to finish up this build. With the Barrel being the last piece of the build that I need.  I saw an ad on gunbroker for raw ESS 16" Car 5.56 Barrels for $99. I am wondering if anybody has used them and how is the quality an accuracy. I just want a good plinker but if SHTF I would like it to work for that as well.
Thanks for al the help

you can get a sportsmansguid barrel for that price and i know that those are very good... and its a 1-7" twist vs the 1-9" ESS...  i know the couple of Sportsmans barrels i have, have all come out to be good shooters... and i am actually working up some 75gr handloads to test just how accurate i can get the last one shooting... its looking really good so far.. hope to have a range report later this week...

Just thought id through that info to you, if your looking at gettting a budget barrel that is accurate capable...   i did quit a bit to get mine shooting, but so far its a MOA shooter or better..!!!

I have an ESS barrel on one of my carbines.  It shoots fine and I have have not had any problems with it.  I built this particular carbine as cheap as possible, using parts from surplus ammo, Aero precison, etc...but I did put in a nice 12" XTR rail from Troy and a used LMT SOPMOD stock.  There is a little play in the upper/lower (due to the DSA lower), but other than that, the build turned out great and shoots acceptable groups.  I have this carbine mounted in the back of my FJ Cruiser in a Blackwater carbine case with a go bag nearby for extra protection.  I did not want to drive around with an expensive shooter in my vehicle, so this build and barrel fit the bill perfectly...

The only problem I have with ESS is having the ability to order directly from them.  The first time I ordered, it was no problem, but after that, everytime I called Andri had some excuse about holding off on taking my order for some reason, e.g. wait until the next batch, etc...

If you are worried about customer service, I highly recommend surplusammo.com  They have a very nice FN barrel currently and also offer $109 mil-spec barrels.  I have had great luck with their other parts, e.g. BCA, and value their customer service...
