Ok, this is not my first AR but this is my first complete build and want everyone to look over my idea to make sure it is not majorly flawed.  I'm building a short barrel 5.56 rifle for close quarters battle situations, 100 yards and in. This gun will have no optics as it must be dedicated iron sights.

I kept some Trijicon A2 night sights, and Blackhawk Storm single point sling off my old rifle to reuse before I sold it. So far I have purchased a factory matched Noveske upper and lower receiver which I picked up form my FFL yesterday.  I have also ordered a Daniel Defense 10.3" light profile chrome lined barrel with the A2 gas block and front sight base installed. I have done a lot of research on the parts that I have selected but figured it would be a good idea to ask the masses their opinions of my parts selection to see if there is a better alternative to anything that I have chosen before I spend any more money. All questions, comments, and criticism will be appreciated.

Upper Parts:
Noveske upper receiver
Noveske KX3 flash suppressor
Noveske charging handle with Badger Gen 2 tactical latch
Daniel Defense chrome lined 10.3" barrel 1:7 twist
Daniel Defense chrome bolt carrier group
Samson Manufacturing 10" free float quad rail with front sight cutout
LaRue offset light mount with Surefire G2X Pro flashlight
LaRue index clip rail covers
MagPul MOE vertical grip
LaRue Fixed rear sight with VFZ mount
Trijicon A2 night sights

Lower Parts
Noveske lower receiver
MagPul MIAD pistol grip
MagPul MOE trigger guard
Spikes Battle Trigger
Misc. lower springs and detents
DPMS oversized safety selector switch
Mil-Spec buffer tube
Wolf extra power buffer spring
Spikes heavy buffer
Vltor Clubfoot IMod buttstock
Yankee Hill single point sling mount/receiver end plate
Blackhawk Storm single point sling
MagPul Pmags

Looks Good, I did about the same thing.

But it has a T1 on it now.

Edit; I kinda wish I went with a longer rail too. My hands always seem to find their way out to the front sight.
Might get a CAR extended from Centurion. Your 10" idea should work out nicely.

ratfink,

That rifle is very similar to what I have invisioned in my head. Thanks for posting the picture.

Everything seems good to me.

Although, while I did initially like the KX3 on my 10.5 LMT, I later swapped it out for use with a suppressor. That said, even if you don't suppress your SBR, you may want to try some lighter muzzle devices, the KX3 isn't called the Flamming Pig for nothing, it is a bit on the heavy side for just being a "noise director".

Here is mine when I first did it.

Same barrel you have listed. with a STAB

Since then I have changed the stab to a ST Muzzle break and I use the STAB on my pistol

Finished pistol.

10" ST BAR on a 10.3 DD barrel

If you need a measurement let me know

Yeah, when I was originally looking at the weight of the KX3 I noticed it is listed at 7.2 oz's. This is the reason I chose the light profile barrel, hoping it would help compensate for the "Flaming Pig" hanging off the end. I have looked at the Score High, Miculek, JP Tactical, and SJC Titan as possible alternatives to the KX3.

I have a 30+ page document on my computer of different rifle parts and I have a dedicated section of "alternative muzzle devices".

Not only is it heavy, it also adds over 3" to the OAL.  I went with an AAC Blackout on my 10.5.  Functions great and really cuts the muzzle flash down to hardly noticeable (in low light).

OP: Be sure to get your Form 1 Stamp first or build the above as a pistol.

There's a couple things I'd consider changing on the gun also.
1. A 10" forearm is going to put the threading inside it, so your chosen muzzle device will have to be installed prior to the rail going on.  To remove it for any reason you'll be pulling the rail off as well.  I prefer to have low profile gas blocks made from FSBs, run an red dot optic, and flip up back ups.  Consider the DD MK18RISII as the 10.3" barrel will leave the flats of your chosen muzzle device exposed for a really clean looking weapon.

2. If you have any desire to suppress a weapon, you're going to do so eventually.  Lose the Pig.  Half a pound and 70% price of a suppressor's tax stamp.  Extra OAL.  Not worth it in my opinion.

3. Put a Noveske QD rear plate on it.  I've run ambi-single points, Magpul ASAP, and just recently switched to the Noveske QD plate.  It's worth it in my opinion.

You may consider the FSB a needed item, however I hate them due to sometimes being pinned out of level.  I am a big red dot fan though.  Good luck with your build.

More than likely you have or will have a good case of BRD and will want a dedicated upper for that. Ask me how I know.

Thanks for posting, you made some excellent suggestions and got me thinking about several things I had not considered.  I'll go down your list and attempt to give some insight on my mindset and my rifle's intended use and some constraints I am dealing with.  My "Form 1" is going out Thursday so that should be taken care of this week, except for the wait and engraving.

1) As far as the 10" Samson rail goes it appears that it only extends past the front sight base approximately 1/4" to 1/2" and appears to be approximately the same length as the Daniel Defense rail in pictures that I have seen.  The bottom rail is also removable to give access to the threads for installation and removal. I chose the Sampson rail over the Daniel Defense rail mostly for more rail cover options as the Sampson has complete rails and the Daniel Defense has some odd rails with some cutouts that appear they may not work with some rail covers.

2) I have zero interest in suppressing this weapon any time soon and will cross that bridge if I come to it.  I'm still up in the air on a muzzle device.

3) I looked at the Noveske QD plate and that appears to be a good mounting option that I am now going to use.

As far as the iron sights go, I have no choice in the matter as I must adhere to a policy that says I can't attach any "battery powered optics" to my rifle for its intended use. So, I have chosen to keep the standard A2 front sight mounted to the barrel as I feel it is more rugged and accurate than mounting the front sight to the rail. If this policy is ever to change I will add an Aimpoint T1 and a flip up rear sight.

I looked at the MeproLight M21 and it just doesn't ring my bell.  I'm ok with iron sights, they've worked fine for me for the past 7 years.

If your truly building it for actual CQB work do yourself a favor and swap that barrel out for a .300BLK. Noveske makes a 10". Everything else stays the same, well except the muzzle device, you'll need one for .308. For CQB the .300 is hard to beat.

I see much clearer now.  I'm glad you're able to use SBRs for work
You've made a much better explanation regarding suppression and muzzle devices and what the intended purpose is.  I'd recommend a BattleComp at the end of the gun.
You appear to be very much on track for the build now, and certainly will have a nice rifle at the end of the process.  Good luck sir and God bless.
