I'm on my first build. I just noticed stock kits come in heavy or light for the buffer. Does it matter which one I use? For instance heavy buffer for a heavy upper? And vise versa? Forgive me for a dumb newbie question, I just wanted to double check. Thanks in advance.

If a rifle is over gassed the heavy buffer can help soften the recoil by slowing down the BCG.

Most carbines and midlengths do not necessarily need a H buffer.  I like to run them to slightly soften the recoil.

Either should work.
For target shooting and hunting I prefer to run the heaviest buffer that will cycle reliably.
If you get a standard weight buffer and a H3 buffer you can mix the weights to make a H1 buffer and a H2 buffer. Just make sure you get the buffers with sliding weights.
