| Hey guys! I am looking at buying my first ar but I am having trouble finding exactly what I want. I want a twenty inch heavy barrel, 5.56, ar with no chrome in the barrel. I am also going to need an adjustable stock. I can't find any gun that has all of these things. Would it be easier to justvbuild it myself? What do you think? |

20" HBAR can be had at Delton or Bushmaster. The 20" HBAR are not as popular due to the weight.
Not sure if this is HBAR or not, call and ask: Delton complete upper Or just the barrel in HBAR: Barrel assembly I hate the bushmaster site, but try there as well |
| Since you already have a good idea what you want, compromise is going to be a problem for you. I recommend you go ahead and build it yourself. I did, and don't regret it. Half the fun was educating myself on the different options / parts, and then putting the puzzle together. If you do so, I suggest you don't scrimp on the Lower, Upper, Trigger and Bolt/Carrier Group. |

Here's a link to Rock River's website. They have heavy 20" barrels both with and without chrome lining. Model AR0220ASY is next to last at the bottom without chrome = $210. That will qualify for free shipping too!

So what all do I need? Upper and lower receiver, a barrel, etc? Does the upper receiver come with the complete bolt carrier group? In your case, get a complete upper like the one I showed you from RRA. The "complete" means it has everything you need including a bolt and charging handle. The A2 will have a fixed carry handle with rear sights already installed. The A4 will need either a detachable carry handle, pop-up rear sight like a Troy of Magpul or a scope & mount for aiming. Once you have a complete upper, you can mate it up with a "complete lower" from almost anybody that has the CAR stock you want. It takes about 15 seconds to put an upper together with a lower. The lower receiver has to come through you local gun dealer with the FFL since it has the serial number on it and is the part considered a "firearm" by the ATF. You can get the complete lower directly from your local dealer or buy it online and have have it transfered through him for a fee. Your lower doesn't need to be the same name brand as your upper. Here's RRA's "complete lower" link: http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=286 |
